Tillerson, Haley Clash Over Iran Nuclear Deal

UN ambassador views Tillerson effort to preserve nuke deal as undermining Trump

In a sign of the ongoing internal dissent over ending the landmark nuclear agreement with Iran, multiple sources told the Washington Free Beacon that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley have been at odds over the deal, with Trump's U.N. ambassador privately expressing dismay with Tillerson over his continued efforts to preserve the nuclear agreement.

Tillerson and Haley held a private powwow Wednesday with international leaders regarding the future of the nuclear deal, a sign of Haley's vital role in the Trump administration's key foreign policy issue.

The meeting is likely to underscore mounting tensions between Haley and Tillerson on the issue, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, who told the Free Beacon that Haley views Tillerson's efforts to preserve the deal as anathema to Trump's own policy agenda.

The division is one of several that Tillerson has sparked within the administration, particularly in the West Wing, where the secretary of state has been described as in "open war" with Trump on a series of major foreign policy issues, including Iran and the Israel-Palestinian impasse.

  1. Why can't President Trump simply fire him?

    1. He certainly can, but I understand he doesn't want to make another drastic change after what the administration has gone through so far.

  2. I pray Trump doesn't overturn the Iranian deal.

Iran is Israel's enemy. Israel wants Syria's Golan Heights, with its oil wealth. And Iran is a challenge to Israel's desire to dominate the region (now that Saddam is gone).

That's not our fight. If Israel wants to annex part of Syria or war with Iran, that's not our business. We should stay out entirely. No more selling weapons to the ME. No more involvement. Ideally we wouldn't need to buy oil from the ME either.

Syria is also relatively tolerant of the Christians there. So, Christians have a conflict of interest somewhat with Israel over Syria.

    2. Right. And Syria is an ally of Iran and Hezbollah.

It looks like absent a US intervention, Iran will come out dominant in the end. It's far too costly for us to intervene. The US has major problems right now, so this is a fight for Israel to deal with.

I expect Israel is safe for now. But I just don't believe in its future. Because it's never going to be as strong as its neighbors. Israel relies on US support to survive.

It would make more sense to carve out an Israel elsewhere in the world. Too many trillions have been lost in this battle. It's time to exit.

And assuming Israel does one day reach its goal of superpower status, enabling it to dominate the region and defend itself, what happens to America? Too many focus only on Israel.

A populist and ultimately smaller government movement would have been, and perhaps still could (though doubtful) take place in the US were it not for the warring.

It's the warring that paints small gov conservatives as such hypocrites (warfare instead of welfare state). And it's the warring, when added with the trade problems (which are related to the warring), that drains the economy.

The result is that people want socialism and mass immigration. It's not a direct route, but the result is socialism. The warring needs to end. It's killing America.

People need to decide whether they are Israelis or Americans. And I can sympathise with wanting a home. Ideally everyone would have a home. But Americans need a home also.

No one wants to follow only lead in a different tangent.

    4. Some of the older ideas don't fit together is part of the problem.

Jeffersonian ideas don't sit right without an agrarian society. And it's very strange how Jeffersonians were sympathetic to the French after the French Revolution.

However, if I say I'm critical of Jefferson, a person immediately assumes I'm then wanting monarchy, or that I'm a Marxist! There's just need for a more conservative movement that can apply to modern society.

The current trend is towards a concentration of power in large businesses and governments. And those few who wield the power become a distant elite. The rest become a sort of transient, undifferentiated proletariat mass.

Such a situation is not conducive to conservative values. So, to have a conservative movement, the economic structure needs to be more decentralised, which could be the new trend. We might see more decentralisation.

Some fear what will happen is masses of humanity will lose their usefulness, replaced by machinery, especially since machines can't form unions or complain about discrimination :P

  3. I'll have to side with Tillerson, pro Iran nuclear deal.
Iran hasn't attacked a country in over 216 yrs. Can the
US say the same? Of course not. Israel has been attacking
the US over and over with their Israeli spy ring and terrorist attacks. Too bad Gaddafi surrendered his weapons
to the US, he might still be alive.
As Rouhani stated: “Whether you like it or not, we are going to defend the oppressed peoples of Yemen, Palestine and Syria."
As for cabbage head Haley, I hope when she passes, a
Confederate flag is draped over her coffin.
